A brush fire near the Alessandro Heights neighborhood in Riverside on Sunday spread to around 500 acres by 7 p.m. and was threatening some 1,500 homes after destroying three of them, damaging four others and forcing evacuations. The residences affected by the blaze, called the Hawarden fire, were in the vicinity of Hawarden Drive and Mary Street.
